Everything you need to know to Look up a Book or E-Book 

This page should help you find out everything that you need to know to look for a book, where you already know the title, or you need to find one by subject.  It will help you locate the books in our Library and even show you how to find them.

You will need to use WKU Libraries One Search, the library catalog.  The catalog (One Search) is the the only search box you encounter when you go to the WKU Libraries Home Page (www.wku.edu) or click on the One Search link below. 

When you get to the search box: 

1. Type in the title of your book. 

2. Click on the little magnifying glass to search.  You will get results which includes articles, book reviews, and books. 

3. Since you just want the books, look at the right under "Tweak My Results." 

4. Look for Books and click on the box in front of it. 

5. Then click on the "Apply Filters" which pops up on the bottom of the page.  

If you need to look up multiple book titles, before you begin your search from the Library Home Page, 

When you get to the search box:

1. Look below the One Search box for the Tab for  One Search Library Catalog. 

2. If you click the Tab, and all the titles you look up after that will be items held at WKU Libraries (most of which are books).

3. Type in the title of your book.

4. Click on the Magnifying glass to search.

When you are looking for a book by subject, you will need to use WKU Libraries One Search, the library catalog.  The catalog (One Search) is the the only search box you encounter when you go to the WKU Libraries Home Page (www.wku.edu) or click on the One Search link below. 

When you get to the search box: 

1. Type in the subject of your book in the search box. Limit your topics to one word, or a short phrase.

2. Click on the little magnifying glass to search.  You will get results which includes articles, book reviews, and books. 

3. Since you just want the books, look at the right under "Tweak My Results." 

4. Look for Books and click on the box in front of it. 

5. Then click on the "Apply Filters" which pops up on the bottom of the page.  

Use this to Look Up Books:     One Search Library Catalog

The Map It Feature of the One Search Catalog makes it easy to locate books in WKU Libraries.

Click on the Map It Button below any catalog entry results that you get when searching in our catalog for books.  It will open a map of the floor of the library your book/item is located on and place an icon in the shelves where the book should be.  Please see the handout below if you need more detail.

4. Look for Books and click on the box in front of it. 

5. Look for  Full Text Online and click on the box in front of it.

6. Then click on the "Apply Filters" which pops up on the bottom of the page. 

Use this to Look Up Books:     One Search Library Catalog

Use One Search to search for specific items in the collection, or more narrowly-defined subjects.

CALL NUMBER       (how to read the Library of Congress call numbers)

Example:     

BF 11.H39  

BF= Subject Area

11= Location within the subject- Like a Street Address – Numbers go from 1-9999 (so: 11 is in beginning of BF section, 9879 is at end of BF section)

.H39= (shows where the book sits on the shelf in the BF11 area) -stands for author’s name
