Professional associations allow legal professionals, paraprofessionals, academics, and students to network and share their research, news, and endeavors. There are many advantages to participating in these associations as a student. They include:

The KJA is dedicated to protecting the health and safety of Kentucky families, to enhancing consumer protection, and to preserving each and every citizen’s right to trial by jury. They also help to educate citizens about their legal rights through its Speakers Bureau and a variety of other informative programs, publications and community service projects.
The association works to expand the use of paralegals, encourage good relationships with attorneys, promote high ethical standards, and provide continuing educational training programs.
The ABA is the largest voluntary professional association in the world. With nearly 400,000 members, the ABA provides law school accreditation, continuing legal education, information about the law, programs to assist lawyers and judges in their work, and initiatives to improve the legal system for the public. The first national paralegal association, NFPA is comprised of more than 50 member associations and represents over 9,000 individual members. The association monitors legislation, case law, proposed changes to the rules of responsibility and ethics opinions that affect the paralegal profession.
NALS is the association for legal professionals and has truly served the paralegal/legal assistant from the minute the paralegal/legal assistant was introduced to the profession.

The association provides current information about the profession, continuing education materials and seminars, networking opportunities, professional certification programs, occupational survey findings, and manuals to help paralegals excel in the workplace.
